This is the
view across the Yarra River from my
hotel. The tower on the right is the hotel tower of the Melbourne
casino. There is a very nice river walk, which you can see in the
foreground. |
|
This is looking out from the
other window of my room. You can still see the casino in the
foreground, and in the background the water of Melbourne harbour, and a
little bit of the opposite side of the harbour.
|
|
Along the river walk on the
South side of the river (and just down the street from my hotel) is the
very Victorian looking Flinders Street Station, with some more modern
architecture in the background.

This is the Flinders Street
Station tower looking over a pedestrian bridge. |
|
There was also a group of four
out for a practice. Here they were taking a bit of a rest as they
turned around to head back up the river.
|
|
Further along the walk I found
the weekly Sunday artists market. There was much of the usual
stuff to be found at such a place, but there were also some great
stalls and I bought a few souvenirs including two original paintings of
some local scenes. A little further along was the fountain in
front of the Victoria National Art Gallery where this local duck posed
for me.

|
Across the street from the
gallery is the Victoria Gardens. There is of course the requisite
statue of Queen Victoria.

Here is Vicky from across the
parks central pond.

Here is another view of the pond.

And a group of ducks having
lunch in amongst the various water plants. |

Here are some shots of some of
the early spring flowers that were in the park.
