Above is the exterior of the Egyptian Museum.  We spent the morning in the museum, but no cameras are allowed so I don't have any pictures.  I can say that the collection is impressive.  For those who have seen the traveling Tutankhamun collection, it is nothing to what is on display here.  The Royal Mummy Room is a respectful display of  some of the great pharos of Egypt lying in state.

The museum was founded by Frenchman Aguste Mariette (1821-81) in 1863 and is Egypt's first national museum of pharonic antiquities.  It quickly outgrew two homes before settling into this building in 1902.  A bigger museum, due to open in 2011, is being built in Giza.

To the right is a picture of the steps of the Syndicate of Journalists building.  These steps are one of the few locations where public protests  are allowed.  However, slip from the steps to the sidewalk and you will be arrested.

We stopped for lunch at a small resturant in the middle of the central bazaar.  Surprisingly, vendors here were much less aggressive than in other places we were to go to, and reminded me of the vendors in Kabul.
