Richard's North American Odyssey 2003

1 April 2003 - Washington, DC to New York, NY (km 13,095)

Marine Memorial
Just a block from my hotel was the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, better known as the Iwo Jima Memorial.  Six-times-life-size, the statue depicts six soldiers raising an American flag over the Japanese-held island of Iwo Jima on  19 February 1945, in one of the final assaults of World War II.  Based on a Pulitzer Prise winning photograph of thescene restaged the following day, the statue by Navy sculptor Felix W. De Weldon looks impressive as you drive by on the George Washington Parkway.

Potomic
Road
This is a picture of the Potomac River just north of the city.  Driving along the George Washington Parkway there are a number of very nice stops with senic overlooks.

I didn't get very may pictures of New York becaue I was too busy making my way through the traffic.
